A credit card user will have to feel comfortable about the fact that there is some safety of his/her money and only then will he/she be ensured optimum use of the card. There are many cases of people not using credit cards on the Internet because they are worried about the danger of the cards being hacked and misused. This leads to a loss of opportunity for both the credit cardholder and commerce as a whole.
Dangers
There are several dangers that will be faced by credit cardholders when they are using a credit card. One of the first areas is the danger posed to the usage of a credit card on the Internet. With the use of a credit card on the Internet there is a worry that the information on the card can be captured and then misused to buy stuff elsewhere. The other common worry is that the credit card can be stolen and then used by somebody who is not the holder of the card. Often it is found that there is no check of the signature on the slip generated after a swipe of the credit card and that some other person has actually used the card. At the same time, there are also various instances of people finding out that the credit card issued in their name has not come to their address at all and is being used by someone else while the bill is being sent to their address.Credit Card: Apply for Credit CardsSecurity features
Several additional security features have been proposed for credit cards, and once they are implemented for all the cards the situation can be expected to improve. However, it is still required to take due care in the entire process of the credit card usage because being alert is the best way to ensure that the risk for the card being misused is reduced.
The first thing that has been recommended is that there should be cameras where credit cards can be misused, especially ATMs. There have been several cases where a credit card was used to withdraw money from the machines. A person steals a credit card and its password and then withdraws money with the help of the card. Once there are cameras every withdrawal made with a card will be captured and this information can be used for tracking down who has used the card and where. This will ensure that the follow-up can be strong in case there are any complaints regarding misuse of the credit card.
The other part of the procedure relates to the credit card itself. Today, if you take a look at your credit card you will find that the most of the cards just have your name, the credit card number and other details like expiry date and the CVV number on them. The proposal is to have a photo on the credit card so that there can be immediately checking of the proof of identity of the cardholder. Once this is done then it becomes very easy for the person across the counter where the credit card has been presented for use to check that it is just the owner of the card who is using the card.
A similar thing can be done with respect to the signature on a credit card, which can be digitized and then put on the card. This will ensure that the signature is on the card right from the beginning and the card misuse is reduced. Currently, the person who is the owner of the credit card has to sign after he/she receives the card and hence it is easier for someone else to get hold of the card and then sign on it. Once the signature comes in a manner that is not easy to tamper with, it can add to the confidence of the credit card user because there is a good chance that any person who is misusing it can be caught in the act. All these features will make the task of misusing a credit card a little more difficult.
