Identifying measure

Every credit card has a separate number that distinguishes it from the other cards present in the market. This enables the right amount to be charged to your account on use of the card.

16 digits

A credit card number has 16 digits that are present on the front of the card in blocks of 4 each. Various ways are used to identify the card and protect its secrecy by not identifying all the digits on the card.

Full number

The entire card number has to be quoted while making any expense. This entire number will be captured by the card reader when the card is swiped at a particular establishment.

Other numbers

The credit card number by itself is not very useful but when used with other details on the card like the CVV number and the date of expiry it gets the necessary validity.

Continuation

The number allotted to a credit card will continue till the time of expiry of the card so that there is a common way established in which the activities using the card can be identified.
